On Saturday 6 May 2017, the International Rwanda Youth for Development (IRYD) attended the 11th Shelter Them Gala in Toronto, Canada. The Gala is an annual fundraiser event hosted by Shelter Them – Batarure, a Christian charitable national NGO dedicated to helping orphans and vulnerable children in Rwanda. Shelter Them assists by providing the basics of life such as nutritious food, shelter, education, healthcare and emotional support. This is all done to give tools that will enable children to play a part in Rwanda’s bright future.

The event was attended by over 300 people who came from Toronto, Hamilton, St. John’s, Québec City, Ottawa and other Canadian cities as well as from the United States of America. IRYD was represented by its Co-Presidents Jaurès Habineza and Moses Gashirabake as well as Doriane Kundwa, Vice President and Director of Public Relations. Tanya Michelle Contente, a friend of IRYD from the United Nations Association of Canada also joined the Gala from Montreal.
